Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
