Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
